Volunteer Water Safety & Rescue Training Course – June 2025

We are excited to offer our volunteers an opportunity to enhance their water safety knowledge and experience by attending a certified water safety course.

Dates: 11–12 June 2025

Course duration is usually 9:00am – 15:00pm, but depending on conditions and students we are flexi in time as to finishing earlier or needing a little extra time.

Location: Unit 28b, 53 Wildevoelvlei Road, Cape Town (Next to Merchant & Maker coffee shop)

A welcome message from the course presenters 

I’m Sarah Sandmann, I’ll be your instructor, Sam is my amazing partner, he’ll be assisting me on this course.The course will include a mixture of theory, dry land practical and in water fitness and rescue techniques.There are minimum requirements to complete the certification but don’t stress, we’re here to get you to where you need to be in a fun, encouraging and safety conscious environment.

– Actively volunteered in at-least one surf therapy session in the past 6 months.

– Candidates must be 16 years or older.

– You will need to attend and complete both days

– Comfy clothes

– Swimming costume

– Wetsuit (if you need to borrow one please let us know)

– Towel

– Sunscreen

– Lunch, snack & hydration

– Pen & paper (if you like)

– Enthusiasm 🙂

– Theory sessions via presentations and workbook tasks.

– Practical assessment of basic water & surf skills.

– Surf fitness test: 100m run, navigating inner surf/impact zone with a 100m swim, 100m run.

– Practical components include practicing basic rescues of a patient onto a board/surf craft.

– In order to complete the course successfully, attendance at all theory and practical sessions in mandatory, candidates will also be required to show competency in all practical & theory tasks.

Course Fee: R1800 (this fee is covered by the Roxy Davis Foundation & Programme Partners if you are an existing volunteer of the foundation)
